Training & Safety
The Division’s purpose is to develop and implement a fire department training program which will ensure highly trained, efficient, technically advanced fire personnel, while maintaining an emphasis on safety.
Training for Success
Branson Fire Rescue is committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety for both our responders and the community. Our Training Division focuses on continuous improvement, professional development, and operational excellence through ongoing education.
Commitment to Excellence through Training
Training is a top priority at BFR. Each firefighter completes training each month, meeting ISO requirements and ensuring preparedness for any emergency. This continuous education covers essential disciplines such as:
- Modern fire and rescue operations
- Emergency medical services (EMS)
- Hazardous materials response
- Technical rescue techniques
On average, personnel complete more than 250 hours of training annually—far exceeding standard expectations. This dedication enhances operational readiness and reflects our commitment to professional excellence, team safety, and exceptional service to the Branson community.
Unique Training Opportunities
Branson Fire Rescue provides training experiences that go beyond traditional classroom instruction. Our teams regularly engage in scenario‑based exercises designed to mirror real‑world conditions, ensuring our responders are prepared for today’s most complex emergencies. From large‑scale multi‑agency drills to specialized skill development sessions, these unique opportunities elevate operational readiness and strengthen coordination with our regional partners.
One of the most impactful examples is our involvement in the development and delivery of Active Shooter Hostile Event Response (ASHER) training across the county. BFR personnel help build curriculum, lead instruction, and participate in immersive full‑scale exercises that prepare responders for high‑risk, high‑stress events. These collaborative training initiatives enhance our ability to work seamlessly with law enforcement, EMS, and other public safety agencies—ultimately improving community safety and resilience.
County‑Wide Partnerships
The Training Division collaborates with area fire departments to coordinate quarterly mutual-aid training and regional certification testing. Local testing opportunities can be found on the MO DFS Acadis Training Calendar.
The Fire Department provides no cost “Hands Only CPR” training for your community group or business. This modern approach to a life saving intervention is crucial element of the chain of survival for a person experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. Contact the Training Division for more information.
GOCAPS Tri-Lakes Fire Strand: Preparing Future Firefighters
Launched in 2024, the Fire Strand was created in partnership with the GO CAPS Tri-Lakes program and area high schools to inspire and prepare the next generation of fire service professionals.
In its inaugural year, five students from Branson and Hollister High Schools participated in the program. Throughout the school year, students trained alongside BFR personnel, gaining firsthand experience and insight into the fire service.
Through hands-on learning, students developed key professional skills, including:
- Understanding workplace expectations
- Effective time management
- Strengthening communication and other soft skills
These experiences equip students with a valuable head start as they pursue further education or careers in public safety. Check out their Facebook page HERE.
Responder Wellness
BFR recognizes that serving the community effectively requires personnel who are physically, mentally, and emotionally healthy. We take seriously our responsibility to support the overall wellness of our team.
Physical Wellness
Our responders are tactical athletes, expected to maintain a level of fitness consistent with the demands of the profession. All front-line personnel complete an annual fit-for-duty physical in accordance with NFPA 1582. This assessment ensures operational readiness and helps identify potential health concerns early.
Crews dedicate 1–2 hours each day to physical fitness, focusing on strength, cardiovascular conditioning, and respiratory health—keeping their bodies “battle ready.”
Mental Wellness
BFR places strong emphasis on mental resilience and supports members through proactive wellness initiatives.
Our Peer Support Team assists in identifying mental health needs and connecting personnel with available resources.
